Alvaro is a Colombian-Australian filmmaker. Prior to turning to filmmaking, Alvaro worked as an architect. His work has screened and received awards at international festivals.
Some of Alvaro’s most noted works include Amanecer (Daybreak), a short film shot in Australia, selected in more than 40 film festivals, winner of 3 international awards and labeled by Los Angeles’ Screen Junkies as “one of the best independent short films of the 2000s”; Parking Lot and Three Parts to a Hug (both nominated in consecutive years for best latin short at Spain’s NotodoFilmFest); and music videos for Colombian bands Bendito Parche (Mi Vida es Otra), Vina Lynch’s Furia, starring renowned Colombian actor Andrés Parra, and El Camino for Alfonso Espriella.
Alvaro was the DOP of the short film 7:23 which in 2008 was awarded the Grand Prix at the One Take Film Festival in Zagreb, Croatia, and in 2011 received the Best Photography award (short film) at the Pasto International Film Festival. In six occasions he has been invited to screen a selection of his shorts and music videos at various Colombian cities: ´CasaTeatro´ (Medellín, 2014), ‘En Medio De’ Gallery (Bucaramanga, 2013), Colombian Film Festival (Medellín, 2012), Cinémathѐque of Bogotá, (2008, 2010) and, Museum of Modern Art of Bogotá (2009).
Tierra Caliente, his most recent project, had its premiere at IndieBo – Bogotá Independent Film Festival, being one of seven shorts in the official selection. In 2015, he wrote and directed Calle Sonora, a 20 x 1 hour episode TV Series that aired on Colombian TV. He currently lives in Bogota, where he is developing his first feature film, The Bullfighter’s Girlfriend.
